Wedding Photography in Devon and Cornwall
When selecting a photographer it is important to verify the quality of the album products. Album suppliers are not equal in terms of image reproduction quality, style, and longevity. You may have noticed that wedding photographers’ prices vary greatly. One of the main factors involved in costs is the quality of the primary end product which is the wedding album. Many wedding photographers use budget printing and albums to compete on price rather than competing on quality. This can be a false economy to brides and grooms if the end product falls below expectations. Following a thorough evaluation of the albums available to professional photographers, I selected Folio and Queensberry as my preferred album suppliers. My decision is based on my experiences and their reputation by many photographers as being the best in the world. I have high standards and these are the only albums that I would be truly happy with if I were the client.
Longevity is relevant to both the quality of the materials/production process and also the style. Think carefully before opting for contemporary styles that have the potential to look dated in the future. In my opinion selective colour and background images in the album design already look tacky and dated.
If you are thinking about hiring a wedding photographer to supply images on disc without an album, I would recommend that you consider the points raised in the article Digital Images vs Fine Art Albums.
Folio Fine Art Albums
Fine Art Portrait and Wedding Albums Handmade in the UK
Folio are one of the greenest albums available. They are made in Britain with locally sourced materials where possible. Your album will be wrapped in a sleeve made from natural, unbleached cotton that’s been washed in spring water, and carefully placed in a sleek protective box made from recycled materials.
Folio albums open out flat with an almost invisible crease, so each image is on full view. The spreads are bonded back to back resulting in pages approximately 1mm thick with a firm yet supple feel.
Folio albums are designed to be enjoyed, not just now but by future generations too. They use fine art, archival quality papers and inks so your album will last a lifetime and beyond. Unlike photographic prints, Folio inks don’t crack or discolour when the page is folded.
These albums will give your photographs the vibrancy and clarity that traditional photographic prints and albums can’t match.
Hand bound and encased in fine, natural leathers, silk or cotton (padded or unpadded).
Art White Paper is a bright icy white ‘sustainable wood’ based paper that reproduces a dazzling spectrum of colours to give images instant vivacity. Specification: 200gsm high white paper with an ultra matte finish.
Art Cotton White Paper is 100% cotton rag with a gentle texture. A slightly warmer white, it’s got museum-worthy archival qualities and gives razor sharp image definition that will stand the test of time. Specification: 220gsm 100% cotton rag, acid free, pH-neutral paper with a smooth finish.
Gallery Cotton is identical to Art Cotton in terms of texture and base colour. The only difference is the weight which at 310gsm adds extra thickness to each page.
Bespoke Album Design
The album layout is fully customisable. Images can be printed across the centre and right up to the edge of the page. I can design an album for you to tell the story of the day and select images that complement each other when viewed on the same spread. Before the album is printed, you have the opportunity to approve the layout, swap, re-arrange, re-size images as desired. The number of pages can be reduced/increased from 15 to 40 spreads (30 to 80 pages).
Feature albums are available in 8×8, 10×10 and 12×12 inches.
