Destination Photographer: Avenue Louise, Brussels Belgium
Posted on June 30, 2012
Staying with the destination photographer theme, this time I’m sharing a selection of images from a photo-shoot in Avenue Louise, Brussels, Belgium. Following my shoot in Parc Leopold, the recce’d locations of Parc du Cinquantenaire and Avenue Louise remained on my ‘to-do’ list. This shoot was arranged at short notice, and Maria’s availability was limited to late afternoon/early evening just before twilight, so I suggested we shoot in and around the urban location of Avenue Louise to take advantage of the ambient street lighting.
Avenue Louise is home to many up-market shops, restaurants and offices, but also has some quieter side streets that I thought had potential for photography. After meeting up in the busy shopping area of the Avenue, we headed towards the quieter side streets. En route we passed the high-end brand stores like Cartier, Dior, Chanel, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Tiffany & Co, and I took notice of the store security guards in the entrances who might try to move us on if we shot on the pavement outside their stores. People have a right to take photographs in public places, but security guards are often over zealous, so to avoid any potential confrontation I planned on returning to shoot there on our way back after the stores had closed.
UPDATE: Since blogging this post, one of the images was requested for use by Future Publishing to be included in the ‘World’s Most Inspirational Photos‘ section of the first edition of ‘Photography Week‘ magazine, and another was selected by the photo editors at Vogue Italia to be featured on their web-site.
Below are a selection of my images from the shoot, feel free to add comments at the end.
